LITHUANIAN STATE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012-2013
With reference to the decision of the Committee for International Studies, No NV–273, decree of October 2011, Education Exchanges Support Foundation takes pleasure in offering the quota for Lithuanian state scholarships for students, lecturers and researchers of foreign higher education and research institutions. Two types of scholarships are offered:
1. Scholarships for short-term Lithuanian (Baltic) studies (duration of studies – one (up to 5 months) or two (up to 10 months) semesters per person). The quota of 15 months overall is offered.
2. Scholarships for the Lithuanian language and culture summer courses. 5 scholarships overall are offered.
The scholarships are not intended for a full course of study. Normally, an academic degree or diploma cannot be obtained during the period covered by the scholarship.

Lisboa, 5 de Janeiro de 2012 – A Comissão Fulbright anuncia a abertura de concursos para a atribuição de Bolsas a estudantes e investigadores portugueses que pretendam prosseguir estudos de mestrado e doutoramento ou realizar projetos de investigação em universidades ou centros de investigação nos EUA.
Os concursos abertos destinam-se a atribuir as seguintes bolsas:

Post-DOCTORAL POSITION – University of Kansas Medical Center / Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Lisbon
The Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Immunology of the University of Kansas Medical Center and the Medical Microbiology Unit of the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of the New University of Lisbon open one position to be filled at post-doctoral level to work in a collaborative project concerning the mechanisms of pathogenesis of Hepatitis B virus.
The selected candidate will work in a young research group based at UKMC, integrated in a consortium with a research unit from the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine which brings together expertise in molecular biology, cell biology, and virology to tackle an exciting biological problem. He/she will be able to work independently and creatively.
Objectives: Our work in part is aimed towards understanding the determinants of maintenance of chronic infection, and their importance to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. Work involves use of cellular and animal models of the infections/HCC development.
Profile: Candidates must have a PhD degree in molecular virology and/or molecular biology with a strong record of creativity and research productivity documented by publications in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in the HBV/HDV area of research is highly desirable. Proficiency in molecular biology and virology techniques is essential
Place of Work: The work will be mainly conducted at the Department of Microbiology, Molecular Genetics and Immunology of the University of Kansas Medical Center (www.kumc.edu/instruction/medicine/microbio/) + eventual short periods in partner laboratories.
