Lenea Maria da Graça Campino is Full Professor in Medical Parasitology, at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (IHMT/UNL). She is President of the Scientific Council since 2012. She is also President of National Observatory of Leishmaniasis since 2008. She is currently a visiting lecturer at University of Algarve.
She has a Medical degree from the University of Lisbon; a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene; a MSc in Medical Parasitology and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences by the IHMT/UNL.
Her main areas of interest are: leishmaniasis and Leishmania-HIV co-infections; molecular epidemiology and parasite diversity; vector and host-parasite interactions; immunology of the infection; natural canine infection and experimental leishmaniasis models; vaccine and drug candidates; diagnostics on visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis; environmental changes and emerging parasitic diseases.
She has led various national and International research projects in those areas, supervised several postgraduate degrees, and acted as a consultant for the Portuguese National Directorate of Health.
L. Campino is author/co-author of 74 peer reviewed publications and 3 book chapters.
