Maria Manuela Calado is Assistant Professor in the Medical Parasitology Research and Study Unit, Helminthology and Malacological Group, at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (IHMT/UNL), since 2008.
She has a degree in Biology from the State University of Kiev (equivalence from the University of Coimbra); Master in Medical Parasitology (IHMT / UNL) and PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Parasitology speciality (IHMT / UML).
Her main areas of interest are Medical Helminthology and Malacology; the role of freshwater snails in the transmission of human trematodes; snail systematics and bio-ecology; binomial relationship parasite-snail; climate change and (re) emerging zoonotic parasites; molecular epidemiology, population genetics; diversity and geographic distribution of snails in Portugal.
She has participated in various research projects in these areas, oriented postgraduate degrees, with several publications in this area.
