Maria Luísa Lobo Ferreira da Costa is a Postdoctoral investigator, at Group of Opportunistic Protozoa/HIV and Other Protozoa, Teaching and Research Unit of Medical Parasitology, at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (IHMT/UNL), since 2010. ML Lobo is graduated in Biology from the University of Lisbon, concluded a MSc in Medical Parasitology in the Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (IHMT/UNL), and completed a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences, specialisation in Medical Parasitology (UNL).
Currently a Postdoctoral researcher (VIH/SAU/0019/2011) in the project entitled “Human toxoplasmosis/AIDS: role of protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) family members in host cell invasion by the opportunistic pathogen Toxoplasma gondii”, financed by FCT; also carry out research, teaching and diagnosis in the Infectious Diseases/Medical Parasitology area, at IHMT/UNL since 2000.
Her main areas of interest are Biomedical Sciences, Medical Parasitology, Opportunistic Protists, Molecular and Cell Biology, Immunology, Bioinformatic analysis, Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine and cooperation for public health development in tropical regions, education, provision of local community services in Portugal (clinical, laboratory and public health) and dissemination of scientific knowledge.
She has participated in several research projects in those areas, and co-supervised postgraduate degrees.
ML Lobo published as author/co-author 2 book chapters from CRC Press and US Environmental Protection Agency, 18 papers (1 review paper) and 4 abstracts in international peer review journals; 2 papers in national peer review periodicals, 37 abstracts in international/national conference proceedings, 16 abstracts in other scientific periodicals, 57 communications in international/national scientific meetings with referees (25 platforms and 32 posters), 5 didactic publications for post-graduate courses (Mozambique and Portugal).
