Roplavac – a rodent plasmodium platform for vaccination

Currently, he is a postdoctoral fellow working at the Prudêncio Lab of the iMM Lisboa on the development of a new whole-organism vaccination strategy for Malaria. He has started the work on that project 5 years ago, upon the defense of his PhD thesis at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa. During his Phd thesis, he developed work on the functional genomics of Anopheles gambiae interactions with Plasmodium parasites at the lab of Prof. Fotis Kafatos at Imperial College London, UK. This work included a significant amount of field based research which was performed at laboratory of entomology of the IRD-Yaounde, Cameroon.
Previously, he worked at the laboratory of Dr. Dimopoulos at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA, on the transcriptome of Anopheles gambiae salivary glands while preparing his final dissertation to obtain the degree of Licenciatura in Biociências at the Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde-Sul, Caparica, Portugal.
