Nuno S. Osório (NSO) graduated in Applied Biology by University of Minho (UM) in 2003, performing the final research project in the Wagningen University, Holland. In 2009, he concluded his PhD entitled: “Uncovering pathological mechanisms underlying Batten disease: from yeast to more complex model systems” at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), Portugal, under the supervision of Fernando Rodrigues. He developed part of his PhD work at the Rochester University Medical Center, USA and at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC), Coimbra, Portugal. Subsequently, NSO was a post-doctoral fellow at the ICVS, under the supervision of Margarida Saraiva, in the topic of “Comparative Genomics and Evolution in Tuberculosis” and is presently a PI at the Domain of Microbiology and Infection of the ICVS/3B’s Associate Laboratory.

Since 2009, NSO is an invited Assistant Professor at the UM, lecturing to the Medical Degree and also coordinating the curricular unit “Bioinformatics in Health Sciences” of the Master and PhD programs in Health Sciences.  He is one of the coordinators of ICVS Outreach activities and co-organizes around 8 outreach events per year for a total of more than 2000 participants. He also organizes and participates in several meetings in entrepreneurship and co-founded 1 technology-based startup company.
