Reconstructing the demographic and evolutionary history of populations with genomic data
Vítor Sousa – Computational and Molecular Population Genetics (CMPG) lab, University of Bern
He conducted his Ph.D. thesis at the Gulbenkian Science Institute (IGC), Oeiras, Portugal, under the co-direction of Dr. Lounes Chikhi and Prof. Manuela Coelho and received his degree in 2010 from the University of Lisbon, Portugal. From 2010 to 2013, he was a postdoctoral associate in the laboratory of Prof. Jody Hey at the Rutgers University (New Jersey, USA), conducting his research on population genetics of diverging populations. Since 2013, he pursue his postdoctoral work in the lab of Prof. Laurent Excoffier at the University of Bern, Switzerland. In particular, he is interested in the development of statistical methods to reconstruct the recent evolutionary history of populations and its broad range of applications, from speciation and molecular ecology to human genetics. He is particularly interested in understanding the roles of migration and natural selection in the structuring and divergence of natural populations.
