The “arbovirus” designation covers a group of virus (RNA genome) transmitted to humans and other animals through the blood meal of their vectors, which could be mosquitoes, ticks, sandflies and Culicoides.
The three arbovirus with major impact in public health are dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever. The most infections caused by arbovirus is asymptomatic but, in case of existence of symptoms, the most common are viral syndromes with sudden fever associated with myalgia and retro-orbital pain, arthritis and erythema maculopapular. In most severe cases, infections can lead to chronic arthritis, encephalitis, hemorrhagic manifestations, shock or even death.
