Tuberculosis is a bacterial infectious disease caused by the bacteria communly designated “Koch bacillus”.
It´s a disease that kills in large numbers around the world, with particular impact on developing countries.
The disease is transmitted from person to person through the air. When a infected person speeks, coughs or sneezes, releasing in the air drops with Koch´s bacillus, healthy people will inhale them and became infected.
Although the disease is curable, prevention remains the most effective control measure, made by BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) vaccine, which is applied in the first 30 days of life and is capable of protecting against more serious forms of tuberculosis, and also throught the early diagnosis of the patients releasing bacilli in order to quickly implement therapeutics.
